Action movie star Tom Cruise and singer and actor Dolly Parton are among the luminaries selected to receive honorary Oscars this year for lifetime achievements, Hollywood’s film academy said on June 17.

Actor and choreographer Debbie Allen and production designer Wynn Thomas also were selected for recognition by the board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The honorees will receive their Oscar statuettes at the annual Governors Awards gala in November.

Cruise, currently starring in Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, was selected for his decades of work, including films such as Risky Business, two Top Gun movies and the Mission Impossible franchise.

Parton, a country music singer and star of movies including Steel Magnolias and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her charitable efforts. Her Imagination Library has gifted 284 million books to kids over 30 years.

俳優で振付師のデビー・アレンと、プロダクション・デザイナーのウィン・トーマスも映画芸術科学アカデミーの理事会による表彰に選ばれた。

受賞者たちは、年に１度開かれる11月のガバナーズ賞授賞式でオスカー像を受け取る。

クルーズは、現在『ミッション・インポッシブル―ファイナル・レコニング』に主演しており、『卒業白書』や『トップガン』の２本の映画、『ミッション・インポッシブル』シリーズなどの映画を含め、彼の数十年にわたる業績を理由に選ばれた。

カントリー音楽の歌手で、『マグノリアの花たち』や『The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas』などの映画のスターであるパートンは、彼女の慈善活動に対してジーン・ハーショルト友愛賞を受賞した。彼女のイマジネーション・ライブラリーは、子どもたちに30年間で２億8,400万冊の本を寄贈した。
