The skeleton of the world\u2019s largest triceratops was sold for \u20ac6.65 million (\\880 million) at a Paris auction on Oct. 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The dinosaur is named \u201cBig John\u201d after the owner of the land where it was found in South Dakota. It roamed the modern-day U.S. state more than 66 million years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fossilized skeleton was sold by the Drouot auction house to an unidentified private U.S. buyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a record for Europe,\u201d said Alexandre Giquello, an auctioneer at the auction house. He said that the market for dinosaur fossils was relatively new but growing fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first part of Big John was found in 2014. The skeleton is huge, at 7.15 meters long. The skull alone is 2.62 meters long and 2 meters wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
