The government\u2019s megaquake advisory warning system is running into problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is designed to give warning alerts to 707 municipalities in 29 of Japan\u2019s 47 prefectures. These areas are designated disaster reduction areas for an expected Nankai Trough quake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, many of the municipalities are confused about the advisory system, according to a Cabinet Office survey taken between mid-September and early November this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About 570 municipalities responded to the survey. Only 21.5% of the 707 municipalities said they understood the advisory system. Ten percent said they did not know details of the system or how to respond to the alert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cabinet Office will examine how the system may be improved so that municipalities have a better understanding of the advisory system.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
