Over 400 people remain evacuated in Ishikawa Prefecture a month after the heavy rain that caused floods and landslides in many parts of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of Oct. 18, the number of evacuees stood at 434, including those who had moved to accommodation facilities for temporary stays in a practice called secondary evacuation, according to the prefecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The number has not decreased very much since a few days after the disaster, mainly because the construction of temporary housing has been delayed due to a shortage of land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Sept. 21, the city of Wajima had 121 millimeters of rain per hour, a record high. The Meteorological Agency issued a heavy rain emergency warning in Wajima, the city of Suzu and the town of Noto, all in the northern part of the peninsula, which had been heavily damaged by a big earthquake Jan. 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
River flooding and mudslides caused by the downpour killed 14 people and left one person missing. A total of 1,487 homes were damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
