Japan\u2019s first moon lander has survived a third freezing lunar night, the country\u2019s space agency said on April 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said it sent a signal to the probe, called Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM), on the evening of April 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SLIM responded to the signal. That confirms that the probe has survived another lunar night. On the moon, a night lasts for up to 15 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Temperatures can fall to minus 170 degrees Celsius during a lunar night, and rise to around 100 C during a lunar day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SLIM reached the lunar surface on Jan. 20, making Japan the fifth country to successfully place a probe on the moon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
JAXA said on the social media platform X that SLIM\u2019s key functions are still working despite the large changes in temperature.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
