Peruvian archaeologists have found a 3,000-year-old mummy in Lima, they said on June 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Students from San Marcos University and researchers first discovered parts of the mummy\u2019s hair and skull in a cotton bundle. Then they uncovered the rest of the mummy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mummy was probably from the Manchay culture, said archaeologist Miguel Aguilar. The Manchay culture developed in the valleys of Lima between 1,500 and 1,000 B.C., he said. The Manchay are famous for building temples in a U-shape pointing toward the sunrise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The person \u201chad been left or offered (as a sacrifice) during the last phase of the construction of this temple,\u201d Aguilar said. \u201cIt is approximately 3,000 years old.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other items, including coca leaves and corn, were buried with the body. Archaeologists say they may have been part of an offering.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
