New Zealand\u2019s national airline is asking passengers to step on the scales before they board international flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Air New Zealand says it wants to weigh 10,000 passengers during a monthlong survey. The information will help pilots to better balance their planes before takeoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But no one will see the customers\u2019 weights, not even staff members, the airline promised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Zealand airlines have to estimate passenger weight because of a rule by the Civil Aviation Authority , the country\u2019s industry watchdog. One way to estimate the number is to run a survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s simple, it\u2019s voluntary, and by weighing in, you\u2019ll be helping us to fly you safely and efficiently every time,\u201d said an Air New Zealand spokesman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
