Japan on May 1 lifted its nuclear disaster evacuation order for parts of a village near the crippled Fukushima No. 1 power plant, meaning entry restrictions are no longer in place in any designated reconstruction base across six municipalities in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The restrictions were removed for the village of Iitate after the lifting of similar orders in five other municipalities that began in June 2022. The restrictions have been in place since the March 2011 nuclear disaster left the areas uninhabitable due to high radiation levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The five other municipalities where restrictions were lifted earlier are Futaba, Namie, Tomioka, Okuma and Katsurao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iitate is located between 30 and 50 kilometers northwest of the Fukushima No. 1 power station. The entire village was put under an evacuation order, which was lifted in March 2017 for 95% of its area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, a southern district of the village remained a \u201cdifficult-to-return\u201d zone. Of this zone, 17% was designated as a \u201creconstruction and revitalization\u201d base.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
