A gunman opened fire in a school in central Russia on Sept. 26, killing 17 people, including 11 children, before shooting himself dead, authorities said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The shooting took place in School No. 88 in Izhevsk, a city 960 kilometers east of Moscow in the Udmurtia region. The school educates children between grades one and 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Russia\u2019s Investigative Committee identified the gunman as 34-year-old Artyom Kazantsev, a graduate of the school, and said he was wearing a black T-shirt bearing \u201cNazi symbols.\u201d No details about his motives have been released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The regional governor, Alexander Brechalov, said the gunman was registered as a patient at a psychiatric facility. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said President Vladimir Putin \u201cdeeply mourns\u201d the deaths and described the incident as \u201ca terrorist act by a person who apparently belongs to a neo-fascist organization or group.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
