\u82f1\u8a9e\uff1a\u201cTime for a change<\/strong>\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

My wife and I used to keep a pretty tight daily schedule, though we were hardly as strict as the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We both work from home and on weekdays we\u2019d be in bed by midnight and up by 8 o\u2019clock. We would eat lunch between 1 and 2 o\u2019clock and have dinner at 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of that went out the window when our daughter Kaede was born last month and she reset our entire schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now we sleep whenever she sleeps and eat whenever she\u2019ll let us. Our microwave is getting a lot more use heating up all the meals that go cold \u2014 Kaede has a knack for needing a diaper change as soon as dinner is ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In short, we no longer live on Japan Standard Time. We now follow Kaede Time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of this was to be expected of course \u2014 and it\u2019s an easy sacrifice to make given how much joy our daughter brings us every day \u2014 but the adjustment has been a bit of a challenge. Time management is now taking on a whole new degree of importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Truthfully, I had been trying to improve my time management skills long before Kaede\u2019s arrival and I\u2019m actually hopeful that having a whole new set of responsibilities will benefit me in that area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the ability to work remotely since the start of the pandemic has been a major help, it also became much easier to sleep in and start my day later than I had planned. Various articles on time management note that getting up by 7 allows you to plan out your day and take care of tasks that you won\u2019t have time for later \u2014 be it exercise, study or even doing some early dinner preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My daughter ensures that I\u2019m getting an early start even when I don\u2019t want to. She\u2019s the ultimate alarm clock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Procrastination is also an area where I struggle. In the age of the smartphone and Netflix, distractions are seemingly everywhere and it\u2019s easy to lose an hour or two of your free time browsing the internet or watching a show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Often, that\u2019s just a way of relieving stress or unwinding after a long day of work, but other activities would clearly be more beneficial for my mind and body. Kaede might be able to help with that, too. Scrolling Twitter can be replaced by a walk to the park and time spent watching the latest Netflix hit can instead be used to read or play with my daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While a good night\u2019s sleep might be a difficult sacrifice for now, I\u2019m hopeful that parenthood can also play a part in helping me ditch some of the bad time management habits I\u2019ve developed over the years.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
