Christmas tree prices rise in US because of reduced supplies and bad weather”
As Americans start shopping for Christmas trees, they should be ready for sticker shock. That’s what Christmas tree sellers are saying this season.
“It’s a double whammy — weather and supply chain problems are really hampering the industry,” said Jami Warner, executive director of the American Christmas Tree Association. “Growers have been hard hit by floods, fires, smoke, drought, extreme weather conditions.”
Christmas tree farms in Oregon and Washington saw wildfires and record-high heat this year. And the number of truck drivers is shrinking, making it more expensive to move trees.
U.S. shoppers can expect to have fewer choices and pay up to 30% more for both real and artificial trees, industry officials said.
Warner had some advice for tree shoppers: “Shop early. If you see something you like, buy it.”
